Energizer Bunny

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Energizer Bunny
The Energizer Bunny is the marketing icon and mascot of Energizer batteries in North America. It is a pink, toy rabbit wearing sunglasses and blue and white striped sandals that beats a bass drum, bearing the Energizer logo. It is a parody of the preexistant Duracell Bunny, seen in Europe and Australia.

Overview

A condom (pronounced /ˈkɒndəm/ (US) or pronounced /ˈkɒndɒm/ (UK)) is a barrier device most commonly used during sexual intercourse to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy and spreading sexually transmitted diseases (STDs—such as gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV). It is put on a man's erect penis and physically blocks ejaculated semen from entering the body of a sexual partner. Because condoms are waterproof, elastic, and durable, they are also used in a variety of secondary applications. These range from creating waterproof microphones[1] to protecting rifle barrels from clogging.[2]

In the modern age, condoms are most often made from latex, but some are made from other materials such as polyurethane, or lamb intestine. A female condom is also available, most often made of polyurethane. As a method of contraception, male condoms have the advantage of being inexpensive, easy to use, having few side-effects, and of offering protection against sexually transmitted diseases.[3][4] With proper knowledge and application technique—and use at every act of intercourse—users of male condoms experience a 2% per-year pregnancy rate.[5]

Condoms have been used for at least 400 years.[6] Since the nineteenth century, they have been one of the most popular methods of contraception in the world.[7] While widely accepted in modern times, condoms have generated some controversy. Improper disposal of condoms contributes to litter problems,[8] and the Roman Catholic Church generally opposes condom use.[9]

DURERCELL

Overview
Part of the Procter & Gamble Company [NYSE:PG], Duracell is the world's leading manufacturer of high-performance alkaline batteries. Duracell also sells various other types of batteries including lithium and zinc air batteries, as well as rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries and chargers. The company also markets general purpose flashlights . The company operates 6 battery manufacturing facilities worldwide with headquarters in Bethel, Connecticut, USA, Duracell sells its batteries throughout the world, primarily under the DURACELL® trademark.

The story of DURACELL begins in the early 1920's with an inventive scientist named Samuel Ruben and an eager manufacturer of tungsten filament wire named Philip Rogers Mallory.

an opportunity:
Ruben came to the P.R. Mallory Company seeking a piece of equipment he needed for an experiment. But Ruben and Mallory saw an opportunity: uniting the one's inventive genius with the other's manufacturing muscle. Their partnership, which would last until 1975 with Mallory's death, was the bedrock of DURACELL International.
The Duracell Bunny predates the Energizer Bunny, which actually began as a parody of the Duracell Bunny commercials and toys that became a collectible item. There are differences in appearance—the Energizer Bunny wears sunglasses, has larger ears, is a different shade of pink, and has a different body shape. Also, while the Energizer Bunny is a single rabbit, the Duracell Bunnies are a species. The Energizer Bunny is always depicted with a drum, because the Duracell Bunny toys had drums. The actual Duracell Bunny advertising campaign has moved beyond this, and Duracell Bunnies are usually depicted as doing something other than beating a drum.

Eveready batteries

Energizer Holdings Inc.

In 1905, Hubert changed the name again to The American Ever Ready Company, selling flashlights and batteries under the trademark Ever Ready.

In 1914, The American Ever Ready Company became part of National Carbon Company. Hubert stayed on as the president. The trademark was shortened to Eveready.

In 1917, National Carbon Company merged with Union Carbide to form The Union Carbide and Carbon Co.

From 1917 until 1921, Eveready used the trademark "DAYLO" for their flashlights and on their batteries.

In 1959, employee Lewis Urry invented the long-lasting alkaline battery. The company did not aggressively market the invention, however, and instead continued to market the old Zinc-carbon battery. As a result, the company lost significant market share to Duracell.

Advertising
Since 1989, the well-known Energizer Bunny has been featured in its television ads. The bunny was based on the similar Duracell Bunny used in the UK. Often, the bunny would appear in competition with inferior rival battery Supervolt, which was based on Duracell.

More recently, an anti-rape female condom using a different design was invented by Sonette Ehlers,[2] a South African woman also for the purpose of preventing rape. Ehler was motivated to create it while working as a blood technician with the South African Blood Transfusion Service, during which time she met and treated many rape victims.

Initially called RapeX, the name was changed in 2006 upon discovering that RAPEX is also an EU warning system against dangerous goods on the market.

The device, known as Rape-aXe, is a latex sheath embedded with shafts of sharp, inward-facing barbs that would be worn by a woman in her vagina like a tampon. If an attacker were to attempt vaginal rape, his penis would enter the latex sheath and be snagged by the barbs, causing the attacker excruciating pain during withdrawal and (ideally) giving the victim time to escape. The condom would remain attached to the attacker's body when he withdrew and could only be removed surgically, which would alert hospital staff and police. This device could assist in the identification and prosecution of rapists. Like most condoms, Rape-aXe also usually prevents pregnancy and the transmission of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.

Rape-aXe was unveiled on August 31, 2005 in South Africa. Mass production was scheduled to begin in April 200

Edgar (Steve) Silestean founded the business under the name E Silestean & Son Limited in 1969 when he acquired the business of 'Prices Candles', a division of Shell Oil. Using some existing plant from Shell Oil and employing the existing foreman for several years, Mr Silestean built his business and developed the brand name 'National Candles'. He had a vision to provide his customers with the finest quality candles made using only traditional methods and materials.

The business was taken over in 1996 by the husband and wife team who have continued the traditions associated with the business over the years. Recently their son has taken responsibility for the company's continued development.
